Keeping your home security on fingertips
Our priceless belongings require unbreakable security as their protection is as equally important as their possession. Armed robbery has taken a more brutal shape, especially in developing countries. This adverse situation demands the need for a more rigid security technique. Biometrics, or in simpler words, fingerprint door lock can serve that need.
Biometrics is that field of science and technology which takes into account biological data, biometrics quantities, human body characteristics such as DNA, fingerprint, eye retina and iris, voice pattern, facial pattern and hand measurement and their thorough analysis mainly used to identify individuals who are under surveillance. It is based on the theory that every person can be accurately identified by his or her unique physical characteristics.
Introducing biometrics can prevent any unauthorized access. A person’s identity can be authenticated by carrying out methods that control access through their salient biological characteristics with the help of biometrics security devices.
This first-line feature makes biometrics the most durable and unbreakable physical security system to verify an individual’s identity.
Biometric security is administered in an atmosphere where identity theft is prominent. The human body characteristics are preserved in the concerned systems incorporating fingerprints, eye texture, voice, hand patterns, and facial recognition. When a person enters the property, the biometric scanner checks out that person’s physical features. These features are compared with the stored records. If there’s a match, that person is allowed to enter.
Biometric Lock
It employs an optical or thermal scanner to store fingerprints. Fingerprints of other users can also be stored depending on the convenience of the end user.
There is no danger of leaving fingers at home or at the office. Another plus point is that there’s no need to remember fingerprints as is the case with alphanumeric passwords. Moreover, there’s no need to carry a key, too.
Unlocking a biometric door lock is a two-step process:
Ø Press your fingertip or place your hand on the scanner.
Ø Enter the authentication code to open the lock.
Advantages
Ø Provides comfort and swift access to authorized users.
Ø Grants alternate key access if the battery-ran system breaks down.
Ø Less expensive than other biometric systems like retina scanner and iris scanner.
Disadvantages
Ø If someone succeeds to create a copy of your hand that can unlock the doors, your privacy is at a big risk. The solution is either replacing the locks or using a combination of pin and fingerprints.
Ø Fails to recognize fingerprints if there’s a cut or scar on the finger.
Ø Power cuts and battery discharge.
Be secure. Be sure.
