About Clinical Depression
Clinical depression is the more critical type of depression, also described as major depression or major depressive ailment. It is somewhat different from depression due to loss such as the demise of an acquaintance or any other health-related problems. Outside, everything seems to be ordinary. Inside, there is a dire disturbance. At times you may have the irresistible want to stand at the middle of the road and shriek at the peak of your voice, without any specific purpose.
Indications and Warnings
- Feelings of loneliness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness
- Tiredness and lack of energy so even small work consume extra effort
- Angry outbursts, irritability, and frustration, even over petty issues
- Loss of interest or pleasure in almost every activity or event like gatherings, movies, and outings
- Distorted sleep routine; either you do not sleep at all or sleep too much.
- Reduced appetite and weight loss or increased cravings for food and weight gain
- Anxiety, agitation or restlessness
- Slowed thinking, speaking or body movements
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt, digging on past failings.
- Difficulty in thinking, concentrating, making decisions and recollecting things
- Unexplained physical problems like back pain or headache
- Frequent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts or suicide

According to a WHO report, India shelters approximately 57 million people (18% of the global estimate) going through depression. The suicide rate is more than 21.1 per 1, 00,000 population. Less than half get accurate care.
What worsens Depression?
There are different remarks that are at times passed with good intents but can have the opposite effect on the affected person.
Rule out these phrases when providing a shoulder to your acquaintances:
- “Don’t think about it”
- “Be positive!”
- “I understand your sufferings”
- “Count your blessings”
- “It could be worse”
- “Move on”

Sadly, not a single test exists to detect depression. Moreover, there haven’t been any quick fixes to help people get rid of depression as it is different for everyone. Yet, there are some efficient healings and health professionals who can dive into your rescue:
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
CBT has proved to be one of the most impactful treatments for depression. It involves working with a specialist to identify thought and behavior patterns that are either making you more broken down or prohibiting you from getting better when you’re in depression.
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT)
IPT targets issues in personal associations and the expertise required to counter these. IPT is based on the notion that relationship issues can have a drastic impact on someone experiencing depression and can even add to the cause.
- Behavior Therapy
It is an important element of CBT. It targets encouraging tasks that are enriching and satisfying with an aim to overthrow the arrays of avoidance, withdrawal, and inactivity that worsen depression.
- Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)
MBCT is usually performed collectively and includes a kind of meditation called ‘mindfulness meditation’. Initially, it targets physical sensations (such as breathing) but then moves on to feelings and thoughts.
